Chartered Surveyor and RICS Registered Valuer
As a Chartered Surveyor, I spend a lot of time visiting properties across Cheshire and Greater Manchester. Over the years, I have surveyed homes in towns, villages and cities of all shapes and sizes, but Knutsford remains one of my favourite places to live and work.
My connection with Knutsford is not just professional. My wife and I moved here more than a decade ago after spending several years living in South Manchester. Like many people, we were looking for somewhere that offered a little more space, a stronger sense of community and easier access to the countryside, whilst still being well connected to Manchester and the wider region.
Knutsford immediately stood out. The attractive town centre, independent shops, excellent restaurants and proximity to Tatton Park gave it a character that felt very different from many other Cheshire towns. Even today, it remains one of those places where people stop to chat, neighbours know each other and there is a genuine community atmosphere.
Why Do So Many People Want To Live In Knutsford?
There are plenty of reasons why Knutsford continues to be one of Cheshire’s most sought after locations.
The town offers a blend of historic charm and modern convenience. Residents benefit from excellent road links via the M6 and M56, direct rail connections to Manchester and Chester, and easy access to Manchester Airport.
Families are often attracted by the quality of local schools, while professionals appreciate being able to commute into Manchester whilst enjoying a more relaxed lifestyle outside the city.
Perhaps most importantly, Knutsford has managed to retain its identity. Despite continued growth and investment, it still feels like a market town rather than a commuter suburb.
A Diverse Property Market
One of the interesting aspects of surveying property in Knutsford is the variety of housing available.
The town contains everything from Victorian terraces and Edwardian family homes through to post war housing, luxury apartments and modern developments. Many of the older properties have real character, but they can also come with issues that buyers should be aware of.
Period homes may show signs of historic movement, ageing roofs, damp related issues or alterations carried out over many decades. These are not necessarily reasons to avoid a property, but they are exactly the types of issues that a professional survey can help identify before a purchase completes.
Alongside the older housing stock, Knutsford has also seen several new developments in recent years, including schemes on the outskirts of the town. Whilst new build homes can appear problem free, surveys still regularly identify snagging issues, workmanship defects and maintenance concerns that buyers may not spot themselves.
Local Areas Worth Exploring
Knutsford itself is only part of the appeal.
The surrounding villages and countryside offer some fantastic places to live, including Tabley, Mobberley, Mere, High Legh and Lower Peover. Each area has its own character and property market, ranging from country cottages and converted farm buildings through to substantial family homes.
The nearby Tatton Park estate remains one of the area’s biggest attractions and contributes significantly to the overall appeal of the town.
Moving To Knutsford
Many of my clients are relocating into the area from Manchester, Liverpool and other parts of the North West.
If you are planning a move, it is worth using experienced local professionals who understand the area. For removals, companies such as Knutty Movers have built a strong local reputation for helping families relocate throughout Cheshire and the surrounding areas.
Combining a professional survey with a well organised move can help make the entire buying process significantly less stressful.
Why Local Knowledge Matters
One of the advantages of using a local surveyor is understanding the nuances of an area’s housing stock and property market.
Over the years I have surveyed a wide range of homes across Knutsford and the surrounding villages. Knowing the age of developments, common construction methods and recurring issues found within certain property types allows me to provide more informed advice to buyers.
Whether you are purchasing a Victorian terrace near the town centre, a family home on a modern development or a rural property in one of the surrounding villages, understanding the condition of the building before you commit is essential.
